Cloud-Based Streaming Infrastructure Surges: AWS Media Services Powers Major League Baseball’s Digital Transformation
Major League Baseball (MLB) has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to revolutionize its digital streaming infrastructure, leveraging AWS Media Services for enhanced performance and scalability. This move is expected to elevate fan experiences across all platforms by providing faster load times, higher quality streams, and improved reliability during live events.
The Shift to Cloud-Based Solutions
Traditionally, MLB relied on on-premises servers and hardware to manage its extensive streaming operations. However, the growing demand for high-quality content and the increasing number of devices used by fans have pushed the league to seek more scalable solutions. “The cloud offers a level of flexibility that traditional infrastructure simply can't match,” said Sarah Thompson, MLB’s Chief Technology Officer.
AWS Media Services: A Game-Changer
AWS Media Services includes a suite of tools designed specifically for media and entertainment companies. For MLB, the most impactful service is AWS Elemental MediaLive, which provides real-time video transcoding to deliver streams in various formats and resolutions to multiple devices. “With AWS Elemental MediaLive, we can now support an almost unlimited number of simultaneous viewers without worrying about performance bottlenecks,” added Thompson.
Performance Metrics
Since implementing AWS solutions, MLB has seen a significant improvement in its streaming metrics. Load times have decreased by 30%, and the quality of streams has improved to 4K resolution for premium subscribers. These enhancements are crucial for maintaining fan engagement during high-profile games and other events. “Our fans deserve the best viewing experience possible, and AWS Media Services is helping us achieve that,” Thompson emphasized.
Future Prospects
MLB’s partnership with AWS is not just about current improvements; it's also about laying a foundation for future advancements. As technology evolves, MLB can easily integrate new features and services offered by AWS to stay ahead of the competition. “We are excited about what the future holds,” Thompson concluded.
