A New Era in Sports Broadcast Production Clear-Com has made a significant stride in enhancing live event communication with the successful deployment of FreeSpeak Cell during a recent test by RTL Deutschland at the Nürburgring race circuit. This innovative solution integrates intercom systems into 5G infrastructure, providing unmatched flexibility for production teams and reducing operating costs. The test proved that FreeSpeak Cell can offer stable communications coverage across large areas without relying on complex infrastructure.
The Technology in Action The deployment included cameras, trucks, and additional production areas at the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit and the paddock. Jens Schilder, Project Engineer at RTL Deutschland, noted that this technology was instrumental in ensuring stable communication without needing additional DECT antenna infrastructure. "For us at RTL, the flexibility of our production workflows is one of our top priorities," said Schilder. "The successful test at Nürburgring proves that integrating intercom solutions into 5G infrastructures efficiently bridges the last mile of wireless communication. This is a decisive step toward fully mobile remote productions that demand high standards of latency and reliability."
Implications for Sports Broadcasting Clear-Com's Alex Hemme emphasized the market demand for scalable systems that increase freedom of movement for production teams. "The partnership with RTL Deutschland shows our commitment to implementing innovative solutions directly in real-world applications," said Hemme. "FreeSpeak Cell delivers exactly the kind of flexibility and investment security that the broadcast industry needs. Demonstrating these capabilities under demanding conditions sends a strong signal to the industry."
